Show (By W. U. Telegraph,) TROUBLE ABOUT EXT It AS. Washington, 8, Sergeant at arms, Ordway, yesterday wiiited upon comptroller comp-troller Taylor of the Treasury Department Depart-ment to get a warrant for the $1,60J, UU(J which impatient and opportuning congressmen have been demanding for back pay. The oomptrollei informed Ordway that he did not see how he could pay the money. The section under which this payment was claimed was so clumsily worded as to be liable to several constructions, and besides there were tho insuperable objections that the section did not specify the amount to be paid and made no appropriation appro-priation for that purpose. Many members mem-bers of congress, upon hearing of this decision, and who have been waiting for tbeir $5,000 have left lor home tonight. |
