Show Cowardly nnd Dangerous Ntiootiug. Between twelve and one o'clock, Saturday morning, a cowardly attempt w;w made by some one to take the life of Hans Chlarssoii.who resides on the east bench. Hearing a noise outside of his house he Look a rifle and went out, but could sec no one. Thinking that some one might be lurking nlxmt the garden, he walked through the lot, and was returning lo the house when a shot was fired and a bullet, or bullet-, passed through his hat.. The report, so elude, shocked him, and he dropped to Ihe ground, but instantly arose and fired, without effect, however, at a man who was running away. Mr. Chlarssou says that certain parties have threatened to tako his life, and hint Thursday evening, on returning home, he found his cellar on fire, which must have been kindled with the intention of burning the house. He thinks the party who attempted lo burn his house, and the one who fired the shot yesterday, was the same person, and it is a man with whom he has had eomc business difficulty. After the occurrence- of Saturday, Mr. C. says ho will not stand on ceremony about dealing with men found prowling aljout his premises after night. |
