Show Sensation in Oglen. On arriving atOgden yesterday morning frotn the West we witnessed the finale of what had been a real live sensation, tie particulars of the former part of which we learned from Mirhal Tie acd other bystanders. It runs this : On the arrival of tie C. P. train oa Tuesday Tues-day morning, a young lady a'ighted from the cars and was met by a gentleman gentle-man who immediately conducted her to a carriage, which the cjuple entered, en-tered, the carriage irstamiy driving off towards the city at a rapid rate. The carriage was no sooner gone than an elderly gentleman and lady appeared on the scene, who proved to be the distracted parients of the young lady runaway. The cries and ejaculations ejacu-lations of the parents soon gathered a crowd. Pursuit was made by the father and such assistance as he cou'.d secure. Among others who joined in the chase was a dutch watchman, belonging be-longing to the railroad depot, who fired several shots at the carriage when he overtook it, but ere he or any one else did, the birds had flown, and made their way to Alderman Herrick's,where tney were made one, according to the statutes in that ease made and provided. The name of the lover who created all thi3 stir was Mr. Alexander Weed, of San Francisco, and the fair runaway, Miss Etta Picket, Both families moving in respectable circles. When the parents found that the "deed was done" they were greatly enraged, and the old lady, who is a tartar in her way, heaped imprecations both loud and deep upon the head of poor Weed who had spoiled her little game, she having hav-ing had other views for the disposal of her daughter's hand. The parties were at last somewhat reconciled, and when we saw them yesterday morning they were just separating, the old couple with another daughter going east by the U. P. R. R., Mr. Weed and his bride awaiting the western bound train to return to San Francisco, to spend the honeymoon. honey-moon. The history of the affair in detail was published in the Ogden Junction of Wednesday, who got out a sensation poster for the occasion, which gave the paper au immense sale on the platform. The only damage done was to the carriage, which was riddled with bullets by the Dutch watchman. The said watchman was also in difficulty with the authorities for his indiscriminate indiscrim-inate pistol practice. |
