Dee 4The annual meeting of the National Association of wool grows began here today The principal feature was the annual address of President William Lawrence of Ohio who dwelt on the distressed condition of the wool growing Industry and made various suggestions for remedial legislation legisla-tion and concerted acton t secure better bet-ter protection to the growers Resolutions Resolu-tions will be adopted urging legislation to place wool on the dutiable list aU a reasonably high rate President Lawrence in an informal con 1 ference told the wool men he did not expect ex-pect any measure of satisfaction to woolen Interests would be passed by congress con-gress until a full revision of the tariff should be made He submitted a long memorial whicli he suggested be adopted and presented t congress It recites the loss to sheep breeders caused by tht free wool schedule of the Wilson tariff law and favors as temporary relief the reenactment re-enactment of the McKinley schedule with slight modifications Theodore Justice of Philadelphia advocated this reenactment reenact-ment a a temporary r relief and said the HcKlnley woolen tariff had yielded tor three years an annual revnue of 42000000 4200 r Placing wool on the free list he said had so far caused a loss of J10000000 to the wool growers The reenactment of the McKinley schedule he urged should take effect immediately and
