Show TIlE FAIR AT XASHVJLLE The worlds fair of 1S55 will be held in Nashville the capital of Tennessee a city of 100000 people It will be known as the Tennessee Centennial Exposition and the purpose for which it is planned is the celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of the state A company with ample capital has been organized with Major Ma-jor John W Thomas president of the Nashville Chattanooga St Louis railway at its head and work on the grounds has been going on two months The active work of soliciting preparing prepar-ing and classifying exhibits has been placed in the hands of sixteen departments depart-ments which are proceeding in the performance of their duties with precision pre-cision and system The body of the fair will consist of twenty main buildings build-ings constructed of staff in Greek and colonial style one of which the Parthenon Par-thenon for the fin arts is to be wholly fire proof No charge will be made to exhibitors for space but a forfeit deposIt de-posit will be required conditioned upon the exhibit being In place on the opening open-ing day the committee on classification classifica-tion composed of the heads of departments depart-ments and the director general to be the judge The exposition will open September 1 1896 and continue one hundred days The plans of the management call for the completion of all exhibit buildings by August 1 1896 and the exhibitors will have a full month in which to > place their displays The work of construction con-struction is advancing rapidly The heavy grading has been completed and all the building sites prepared One building the one where the administration adminis-tration will have its offices is already under roof and nearly < finished The erection of six other buildings will be begun at once the foundation of the Parthenon being now ready on a high terrace In the center of the grounds The basins of the two lakes are ready and the street car terminal station at the main entrance is being built |
