Show NEWS OF THE WEST Wyoming Cheyenne SunLeader The movement move-ment started by Mrs W A Richards looking toward the presentation to Torreys regiment of a cavalry flag has been enthusiastically taken up by the patriotic women of Wyoming Color do Utah Nevada and Idaho The emblem em-blem will be a beautiful a could bet be-t desired The flag will be regulation size made of handsome yellow silk of the best quality with the coat of arms embroidered in silk in the center A yellow border will set off the handsome center Arrangements are being mada whereby the governors of the five states mentioned as well as prominent promi-nent citizens from each state will be in the city to witness the presentation The Wyoming supreme court handed down an important decision this week In the case of John Owens sheriff of Weston county vs Meyer Frank a curious question was raised I was whether or not a conversation between a party to the cause and one who was called as a witness in which the communications com-munications were made in confidence a a member of the Masonic fraternity in relation to matters in the case were privileged and whether the witness would be obliged to disclose them The district court held that the conversations conversa-tions were confidential and the witness would not be obliged to disclose them The supreme court reversed the decision decis-ion holding that the conversations made under pledge of Masonic secrecy were not privileged Governor Richards has been notified that tbe secretary of war ha approved I the selection of 160 acres of land embraced I em-braced within the Fort Russell military reservation to be set apart for use a a reseraton se state fair ground The land selected is I I about one mile from Cheyenne and embraces an important portion of the city water system A big fossil find is reported W H Reed assistant geologist of the University Uni-versity of Wyoming has left on a scientific scien-tific expedition which will cover several sev-eral mcnths and embrace a large extent ex-tent of territory Mr Red discovered an extensive fossil bed last season and on this trip will locate the ground under un-der the placer mining laws of the United Unit-ed States The deposit is so extensive that it will require eight or ten years to exhaust it |
