Show IN THE SOCIAL REAlM JUSS EDNA DUNCAN ENTER PAINS HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS Ladies of the Ked Cross Society Give a Dance at the Homeof Mrs Jennings Jen-nings Webster School FestivaL The home of Mr and Mrs E W Dun can was filled with bright young faces last night the occasion being a party given by Miss Edna Duncan to the members of the sophomore high school class of which she is a member and a few other friends The color scheme was red white and blue WuIn In the penny game Miss Denice 1 Hughes won the girls prize while Ernest I Er-nest Smith and Wray Black cut for the boys the former securing It After dainty refreshments were served Mr J H Phillips of California sang patriotic pa-triotic songs and Miss Anna Street rendered several piano selections and dancing followed Those present were Denlce Hughes Laura Bird Edith Hale Rosalie Cope Elizabeth Palmer Harriet Cohn Bess McMillan Nellie Street Minnie Wray Edith Hobbs Millie Davis Carrie Soplngton Wardie Glendinning Helen Bamberger Theodore Gentsch Gordon McMillan Irwin Simon Horace Sheeley Wray Black Walter Nickum Ernest Smith Theodore Taylor David and Paul Tarpey Joe Bamberger Earl Watrous Mrs Duncan was assisted by Mrs W E Jermaine Mrs C W Boyd and Miss Street 6 The festival given lat evening at the Webster school was a great success from every point of view At an early hour the audience commenced assembling assem-bling the crowd continuing to arrive until i was estimated there were fully 1000 in the building An excellent pro gramme was rendered in the corridor on the second floor the opening selection selec-tion of which was a chorus of girls who sang very nicely Tenting On the Old Camp Ground Then came a waiter drill by pupils in the beginners grade followed by a minuet Then came the play written by Miss Nash entitled Cuba Libre which was quite a artistic success Mrs Nellie Druce Pugsley sang a solo most charmingly following which was a recitation by little Miss Howarth who spoke ery well indeed The dance by Cuba and America composed for the occasion by Professor Landrum was also well received The scene on the first floor presented a striking and animated appearance There was a Japanese room flower flow-er room a patriotic and a Puritan room in each of which delicate menus were served and In addition was a fish pond and booths fon lemonade flowers annd cand fortune fower peanuts and candy a fortue tellers booth and also one for fancywork fancy-work The occasion will net the school a neat sum which will be applied to the piano fund 000 The Washington and the Grant schools had festivals which were both well attended and very successful 000 The High school alumni ha an outing at Saltair this afternoon and evening 000 Miss Elsie Dickert entertained the High school graduates last evening |
