Show BATTLE MOUNTAIN MINES MOUA One of the Largest Deposits of Copper I the West O H Hardy well known in Utah mining circles has just returned home from a visit of investigation of the I mines near Battel Mountain Nev and he informs a representative of The Herald that in this region there are some of the largest deposits of copper cop-per ore to be found in the west and he made special mention of the Lake j I Superior and other copper properties there which are owned by the Brown I i ing Bros and other Salt Lake people i These mines according to Mr Hardy 1 are immense in their proportions the i i ledge being traceable on the surface I for a distance of 7000 feet while I Is believed that the chute of mineral is I from 900 to 1200 feet between walls Considerable work has been done ill the way of development on these claims and Mr Hardy states that on the dump J there is all of 35000 or 40000 tons of I ore which will carry average values of I 7 per cent metallic copper while considerable i con-siderable ore has been shipped that i k gave net returns of 17o per cent copper I j cop-per and 125 in gold to the ton The mines are not being worked at I I the present time but it is understood i that it is the intention to resume active ac-tive operations within a short time I i The Battle Mountain country is prolific pro-lific in its deposits of the precious metals I i met-als and besides copper there are large and rich veins of gold and silver and i I what is more a fine bed of coal has i been found of late in that section 1 J which is owned and operated by the Austin Mining company of Austin and i a weed for fuel is a scarce commodity t commod-ity in that section the discovery is a I most important one and adds much to the value of the mines that are being I word In that neighborhood as the j problem of fuel for power and smelters t smelt-ers has now been solved I er I |
