Show JIROUR CRREPoXDENCE Showing in the Geyser Marion and Sacramento MERCUR Utah Aug 29The report that a mill would soon be erected by the Hillside has no foundation in fact The Hillside is a good piece of property but is only a prospect so fa and the search for ore is being prosecuted as rapidly a possible No ore has been found 11 the tunnel as yet but as I is surrounded by mines that are working in mineral there is no doubt about its being eventually one of our producers It joins the Mercur mine and the Sacramento Sac-ramento and Is right on the gold zone The material for the Sacramento is arriving daily and every effort to have the work completed at an early date Is being made Some of the material for the new I tanks at the Geyser is on the ground and the rest may arrive at any time As soon as the work of enlarging is completed the force of men will be greatly increased and the mill will run night and day The workings in the new strike are very flattering and enough ore is uncovered to supply the mill at its full capacity for a longtime Mr Smith of the Marion was in town yesterday and stated to your correspondent corre-spondent that everything was satisfactory satisfac-tory at the mine So much ore is now at hand that the mill is kept running at its full capacity and good values are being obtained In regard to the idea held by some that Msrcur is retrograding It is only necessary to state that there is no desire to boom the camp as booming usually does more harm than good Last February the boom was mostly in real estate and in claims on which no work had been done The result of the boom was that the town was crowded with workmen for whom there was no work and there was more speculation in building lots than the condition of the camp justified As a natural result a reaction came and some of the unwise speculators lost money As to the mining industry the mines have steadily imp oved in quality and a great deal of ore has been discovered Colonel Wall is at present busy patenting pat-enting his claims He is interested in quite a number some of them being in the west foothills After obtaining the title for his property the colonel will commence active operations in the way of development Work on the Olsen shaft is progressing progress-ing and i is expected that ore will be found by sinking deep The work has been moving slowly but as soon as the steam hoist which will soon be in placeis all right the work of sinking will progress more rapidly The wires for the electric lights are being placed in position around town A sad case of destitution ha recently come to the notice of the people of Mercur Mrs Aldrich mother of the little boy who was 50 seriously injured by the overturning of a hack at the depot some time ago has been left In destitute circumstances by her husband hus-band who sought new pastures She was confined soon after the accident and as there was no one to care for the three little children they were soon in anything but a healthy condition The infant died and then the authorities authori-ties became cognizant of the state of affairs I is claimed that the hus band left the woman with 1 taking with himself 27 The family has been taken to Lovile where they will be cared for by the county R E Shannon paid Mercur a visit this week in the interests of the Utah Federation of Labor He delivered directories di-rectories and posted up bills concerning the Labor day exercises at S lair 11 Shannon has been connected with the labor movement many years He was one of the Kearneyites of California I Califor-nia and can tell all about many of the labor movements since that time He is for Bryan and Sewall and thinks war if they are not elected it will mean I I |
