Show I I MURDERED A MANIAC HORJIORS OF AX ILLINOIS ASYIOI ARLJ REVEALED One of the Worst and Most Rrutal Cases of the Iviiul That Ever Occurred Oc-curred in Any Asylum I I CHICAGO Aug 9 George Gough i and J B Anderson attendants at the city insane asylum at Dunning are locked up tonight charged with the murder of George Budizick a patient at the asylum Budlzick was an Austrian 36 years old and a very violent man He was first confined in the Alexian Bros hospital hos-pital and from there was taken to the Dunning asylum on Thursday afternoon af-ternoon At the asylum he was received re-ceived by Henry Barrot the bathroom attendant who gave him in charge of Gough and Anderson On Thursday night Budizick seemed in excellent health and this morning he was found dead The attending physician at the asylum susplcloned something was wrong examined the body and found that the flesh all over the chest was badly beaten and bruised In addition to this there was a bad cut in the forehead fore-head He at once sent for the coroner and called in the county physician Dr Mitchell The doctor made a slight examination of the body and then declared de-clared that the man had been beaten to death saying that such wounds as were on ithe body must have been cc I casloned by a sledge hammer A further fur-ther examination showed that Budizick had been literally hammered to death Every rib in his body was broken nearly all of them in two places and several of them were fractured four times The breast bone had been broken in two places and the abdomen bore marks of heavy blows several of which had inflicted injuries on the intestines in-testines sufficient in themselves to have caused death Several places on the chest and side the blows had been dealt so viciously that the flesh was literally torn from the bones and was hanging in shreds Superintendent Morgan after the coroners jury had rendered a verdict to the effect that he had received his death by being pounded by unknown people picked out Gough and Anderson Ander-son as the two men likely to be guilty of the crime they having had charge of the ward during tee night He took them into his private office and they at first denied any knowledge of how the man came to his death but finally admitted that they had assaulted him I They said he was very violent and that when they attempted to restrain him he assaulted them with his fists Budizlek being a very powerful man they said they were afraid of him and in order to protect themselves had assaulted as-saulted him with their fists When asked how they could inflict such terrible ter-rible injuries with their hands they had nothing to say simply insisting that they had struck him with nothing but their clenched fists Dr Mitchell and Deputy Coroner OBrien declare the case to be one of the worst that they have ever heard of and without exception the most brutal that has ever occurred in any asylum in Illinois |
