Show THE INSURANCE UNION STROXG INDICATIONS THAT THE ORGANIZATION IS DOOMED The Commercial Union Assurance Company Withdraws From the Compact May Lead to a Revival of the Local Board Movement After all it now beginsto Hook as though the Pacific Insurance Union was doomed regardless of the favorable favor-able reports which have been received from the general agents in San Francisco Fran-cisco by the local agencies during the past week Of course it is possible that it is simply another of those outbursts out-bursts which can lie neutralized oy some little work but the news came from San Francisco last night that the Commercial Union Assurance company one of the strongest companies doing business on the coast had withdrawn from the compact and refused to longer negotiate for a settlement of the differences differ-ences which have racked the compact for the past several weeks With the I notice of withdrawal was filed a statement i state-ment to the effect that ithe company would cut rates at pleasure Whether or not the notice of the companys cutting loose was simply a thirty day preparer is not known but the general supposition is that ail formalities were waived and that the company will go it alone regardless of the rules or regulations I reg-ulations of the union The dispatcn which announced the withdrawal of the company was as follows I San Francisco Jan 21Th Commercial Com-mercial Assurance company has withdrawn with-drawn from the insurance compact and announces that It will write policies poli-cies independent of the combine with I the privilege of cuttIng rates if it so desires Other companies are expected to take the same attitude Closely following as it does the statement state-ment that the union was rapidly being reorganized under the name of the Board of Fire Underwriters and that all but two pf the general agents ila gill of the Home and Phoenix and Turner of the Northwestern had signified sig-nified their willingness to abide by the action of the committee appointed for the purpose of drafting ai new constitution constitu-tion and favorably considered the re organisation plan submitted by the committee the news of the withdrawal I of the Commercial Union will causa I consternation among the local insurance insur-ance men and probably lead to a revival I re-vival of the local board movement It is very evident that with three heavy I companies on the outside and the I thirtyday nOtices of flfteeen more hanging fire but little can be done with I the reorganization of the compact unless un-less some radical changes take place at once The Utah agents were in hopes that the difficulties had all been practically I prac-tically settled and this feeling was shared by the conservative businessmen business-men of the terrItory Of course It is Imcl1 possible that the general agents and members of the union will gel together to-gether although the indications are I said to be rather unfavorable |
