Show Raging at St LouIs I St Louis Jan 25The sleet storm I that prevailed today during the early I hours later turned into snow which fell for several hours and this was I followed by a strong southwest wind and a fall of 15 degrees or more in the temperature which played havoc 1 with electric wires of all descriptions throughout the city and suburbs Wiht I in a radius of fifty miles of St Louis the I Western Telegraph company lost 125 wires The telephone poles all over the city i are reported down and many wires are i useless as a consequence This State lOr affairs is especially true in the j I southwestern section of the city which I has no telegraphic communication whatever On Easton avenue fifteen boles fell within a fen blocks cutting off all telegraphic comunication with that part of the city and blocking the Franklin avenue electric line Thus far the traffic of street car lines has not been interrupted to any great extent A heavy snow storm the worst since I 1890 has been raging over central Missouri Mis-souri during the past twelve hours The ground is covered to a depth of 12 inches on the level and tonight is drifting badly All trains were late this afternoon and tonight The Missouri Mis-souri Pacific is sending our snow plows I in advance of passenger trains and employed I em-ployed extra gangs to shovel drifts out of deep cuts |
