| Show EVIDENTLY ALL MANUFACTURED Dispatches Connecting E S Croclcer With the Booth Murder Denied The special dispatches that have been claimed by some newspapers to have been sent out from Evanston charging the partner of Mr Booth Mr E S Crocker with the murder of that gentleman gentle-man were from all reliable accounts manufactured for the sole purpose of creating a sensation says the Rock Springs Miner But in the statements are Involved a very serious question to the papers responsible for the reports To accuse try and virtually hang Mr Crocker for the crime of murder before even his arrest goes beyond the legitimate legiti-mate province of a newspaper Mr Crocker is a gentleman of irreproachable character during a long residence in Evanston of nearly twentyfive years and to stamp him at one fell swoop as a I murderer simply on the strength of suspicion I sus-picion does an irreparable injustice to him and his family Even if he were the guilty party which however no one who knows him believes for one minute the expediency of such reports as we have read cannot be defended The writer has known Mr Crocker almost continuously for twentythree years and we cannot but enter an earnest and strong protest against such treatment of one who has always conducted himself as a peaceful upright honest and enterprising enter-prising citizen of this state The Miner will stand by him and persistently maintain main-tain his innocense until proof is brought against him beyond the possibility of a I doubt his heretofore good manly character charac-ter justifying a positivo denial by all fair minded men of the commission of the crime by the accused |
