Show S Y COUNCIL ACTS Adopts Resolutions and Will AttendS Attend-S I a Body Mayor Clark and the members of the city council last evening In special session paid a worthy tribute to the memory of President Woodruff by adopting resolutions of condolence on the death of the beloved and venerable pioneer itzen As a further mark of respect It was resolved that the mayor and all the councilmen attend the funeral fu-neral The meeting was called for the purpose of receivIng a message from the maror and taking apprcxjriate and tmely acton in the apprqrate MAYOR CLARKS MESSAGE The mayors message to the city council was as follows The death of our venerable fellow citizen President Wlf rd Woodruff one of the original pIoneers and founders found-ers of our city and our commonwealth calls fpr some recognitIon of his worth and an expression of the sentiments of thE public from this munlcipaity Our departed friend was known to the entire community as a patriotic and publcspirited man devoted to the welfare of aU classes and was acknowledged ac-knowledged by them to be honest sin care devout and favorable to progress and such erterprses as build up and advahced society I therefore suggest to your honor able body that it would be appropriate on this occasIon to pass such xesolu tlOns asI be suitable to presenti the family of the tamfy respected dece sand s-and hat the matter or preparing such resolutions be referred to a suitable committee PREPARATION OF RESOLUTIONS At the conclusion of the reading of Mayor Clarks message by Recorder Backman President Barnes was directed dI-rected to appoint a special commIttee on resolutions Councilmen Romnej Siddoway Robertson Howe and Cal lster were desIgnated such committee The committee retired for deliberation and subsequently recommended the adoption of the folowing RESOLUTIONS OF CONDOLENCE Whereas In the providence of God the Hon Wiford Woodruff ha been removed from our midst and Whereas Wlford Woodruff was one of the pioneer who entered Salt Lake valley on July 24 184 and has during the 51 year that have since elapsed devoted his time and energy to the up building of this commonwealth as well as the country at large and Whereas By his example the world is shown the Influence of a life devoted to the welfare of mankind and the youth of Our land have a most striking illustration of the achievements of one whose chief characteristIcs were energy en-ergy simplicity and honesty and who fully appreciated the rights and advantages ad-vantages of American citizenship and Whereas In his death not only have I hIs family and immediate frIends lost the counsel and advice of one ripe in wisdom experience and knowledge but the community and our country lose in his death one who has seen the wilderness changed under AngloSaxon energy into a home of millions of cvI lzed men and women and the boundaries boun-daries of our great country extended from the Mississippi to the Pacific ocean Now therefore be it Resolved That we the major and the city council of Salt Lake City hereby here-by tender to the family of the deceased our most heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement and that we in a bOdY attend the funeral of the deceased asa as-a mark of hIgh esteem in which said Wiford Woodruff is held by us and his fellow citizens and be it further Resolved That these resolutions be I spread upon the minutes of this coun ci and that a copy hereof be engrossed and presented to the family UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED The resolutions were unanImously adopted by the following vote on roll cal Ayesouncimen Allen Buckle Callister Howe Morris Patrick Robertson Rob-ertson Romney Siddoway Wallace Wailer and President Barnes I was ordered that Recorder Back man have the resolutions suitably engrossed en-grossed and when prepared the mayor and each of the councilmen will subscribe sub-scribe theIr names to the engrossed copy At 10 oclock thIs morning the city officials will meet at President Barnes office for the purpose of attending the I funeral in a body |
