| Show RETURN OF = EQUIPMENT Volunteer Officers Will Be Held Responsible Re-sponsible For It Washington Se t 7The = mustering out of the volunteers wlll be followed by vexations and troubles for officers of the regular army and for many of the volunteers themselves This is due I to a misapprehension upon the part of some of the officers of the volunteer I organizations reSpecting the property i of the governmentwhich they have in their possession The government wlll I require that every article be accounted for Every officer or man in the volunteer I vol-unteer service who hag charge or din I di-n property will have to account for It before he can be mustered out I and paid 1 An instance Is related ofa governor of one state who received two regiments I regi-ments of troops He told them they could take 30 dayS furlough and go home What became of all the equipment II equip-ment In their possession whIch is the property of the government the United States officers cannot tell Some of these equipments belonged to the ordnance ord-nance bureau of subsistence and to the quartermasters department Receipts Re-ceipts were given by someone when equipments were furnished by the government gov-ernment and the volunteer officers who gave them wlll be held reSponsible for them It Is the Intention ot the war department depart-ment again to supply the states when l the guns and arms are accounted for but in order to keep a straight account ac-count In the department records It Is necessary to have them first returned I to thc department The same is true of other government property e + aa |
