Houtz was named as temporary chairman and Grant C Bagley as temporary secretary The following letter from the absent chairman of Utah cuntys committee HOI A D Gash was read To the Democratic convention of Utah county Ladles and Gentlemen I regret that circumstances make it impossible for me to meet with he Democratic convention con-vention of Utah county at this time and it is highly probable that I shall never be able to meet with you again for I go to Chicago to make my permanent perma-nent home there but I shall be In the grand cause of Democracy there as i I were tth you or at any other place in this broad land I hope that my voice will ever be raised for that which I cohcelve to be right and just to amen a-men A9 I lay down the honor you gave me two years ago when y Ou elected me as your chairman permit me to say that it has ever been my high aim to do on all occasions that which I thought to be for the best interests of the p1rt of Utah countyand the state How weU 1 i have succeeded I leave to the jUdgment of other You gave me a ticket to elect whIch was nominated at what I would term a reasonably turbulent convention which had some opposition in our own rank even after it was nominated Many treat were made that it would not elect some of them but I am pleased pleas-ed to say that they all pulled through by majorities ranging rom 2 to 2000 May I never grow the committee on credentials were instructed to reporon the delegates dele-gates to the state Demo Jtic convention conven-tion for ratification and he convention took an adjournment At the afternoon session the report of the committee on order of buslneas and permanent organization was read and adopted The temporary organization organiza-tion was made permanent < With the following fol-lowing coinage of silver equal with gold at the ratio of 16 to 1 I makes especial reference to the fact that the Democratic party Is the friend of silver ver and the Republican party is the frIend of gold
