| Show GHND ARMY VETS WORKING LARGE DELEGATION WILL BE IN PHILADELPBIA Although Short of Funds the Slogan Will Be Salt Lake For Next Years Encampment The vanguard of the Utah delegation to the national encampment of the G A R is on its way to Philadelphia Already Al-ready Comrades R G Sleater and T C 111ff of this city have gone and yesten day D C McGill junior vice command en of the department and Comrade Newkirk of Ogden followed them Colonel M M Kalghn department cern mander will leave tomorrow evening and probably Past Commanders Frank Hoffman of Salt Lake and Norman Ives of Ogden anComrade Charles Van Alstine will go with him This will make the largest delegation of Grand Army men that ever went from Utah to a national encampment Their especial effort will be to induce the selection of Salt Lake City for next years encampment but they are handl capped in not having the full support of leading citizens Funds snould have been subscribed and a delegation of business men sent to make a reapect able showing lit presenting Utahs invitation in-vitation to the hests of veterans in Philadelphia Phil-adelphia However what little has been provided in the desired direction will be applied to keeping up Utah headquarters in the encampment city on a modest scale but not in a manner that would inspire the delegatloa with strong hope of bringing rtt years encampment en-campment to Salt Lake Many of the delegations from west ann state including Illinois which will give half its vote for Utah will favor Salt Lake for the next encampment place This will give the city a fair start ire the race The Utah delegation at the Philadel plila encampment will make an attractive attrac-tive exhibit of Utah scenes and prominent promi-nent buildings photographed by John SOLe anti Savage minertil specimens and other products which should convince the unirformed that there is something here worth seeing Some printed mat ten will also be taken along to show the veterans that Salt Lake excels anyplace any-place in the west in hospitably caring for large crowds and entertaining them let a manner that well repays a trip across the continent |
