Show LINE TH UG BOISE Short Line President Has But Little to Say About It President Cornish of the Oregon Short Line who arrived in town late Monday evening was closeted with Vice President Bancroft and other general ofcials of the road yesterday morin and afternoon discussing the condition of Short Line affair In particular par-ticular and the outside railroad situation situa-tion In general Mr Corish was interviewed in-terviewed at the Knutsford last evenIng even-Ing and was in characteristic genial mood as he framed the following replies re-plies to the following quries Is it true that the corps of engineers who have been surveying the projected OwyheeBoIse route have been recalled re-called Yes I believe it is They finished theIr work in that vicinity and natur ally were ordered elsewhere to do other work orlI has been rumored that their recall re-call means a breaking off of negotiations negotia-tions between the Short Line and the Boise City committee which conferred with Mr Harriman in regard to pIne ing Boise on the main line is i s 10 i is not so I have already said l why they were recalled In regard to the project to place Boise on the mainline main-line I believe It has been under consideration con-sideration for some time Moves of such importance require much deliberation delibera-tion and reilection and so far as I ton refecton know the negotiations between the Boise committee Mr HarrIman and the local officials of the Short Line never reached the point of actual realty that the newspaper have stated I they did such being the case they couldnt very well be broken oft There I are a great many factor entering into the Boise problem the people of Nampa and other towns are entitled to consideration and we have to regard their interests as well as our own when a project of lICh magnitude is launched A prominent Boise City official who was here several weeks ago stated that the Short Line agreed to place Boise on the main line provided the railroad company was subsidized to the value of 200000 Is that so I dont know The Boise people appear ap-pear willing and anxious to unload their information you had better ask them about it Is there any truth in the report that the railroad company is contemplating building an aldlton to the Cache Valley Val-ley branch from Preston to McCam mon I monI I know nothing about that rumor except that it has been In circulation a sufficient length of time to be worn out Ve will alva s look after the development de-velopment of the country in which we operate and when conditions warrant our doing It we will see that the wants or the public are attended to Mr Cornish also stated that he would make a thorough inspection of the entire en-tire Short Line sysCem before he returns re-turns cast and no doubt a large number num-ber of improcment would follow in the uake of lila visit such as straightening straight-ening but curves adding new ballast and laying new steel rails He did not know just when the tour of inspection in-spection would commence Vice President Presi-dent Bancroft will accompany him when he does go |
