Show DISTRICT 8 KAYSVILLE H 0 bertona in the school district is probably the largest in area of any in the county the scattered condition of the people makes it quite impossible to furnish schools that willbe satisfactory and convenient for all of course it is desirable to have graded schools where practicable the advantages of such schools over mixed schools can only be realized by those who teach and by those who carefully note the advancement van cement of pupils still the paramount question is to furnish schools so that no section of our district will be deprived of the very best educational advantages 0 that can be furnished to reach this end the people must become interested in the requirements of good schools and bo be united in promoting ta changes that will improve the schools and in preventing changes th that would atwould tend to weaken them tho the best results would be reaped with the least expense if all the childen of the district could come together at a central 0 graded school consisting of about seven departments the teacher who now spends his time upon the subject matter of eight grades could then devote his whole attention to the work of one grade and to the advancement of one set of pupils he could teach more pupils teach them better and would be made to feel a g greater reater responsibility for the advancement of his pupils at present our circumstances will not permit of this condition still the nearer we can approach it the greater will bo be the excellence of our schools at a recent meeting z of the citi bens of this district the proposition of a five mills tax for the purpose of erecting three new school buildings was voted upon and supported these schoolhouses will be built in the three parts of the district which seem to require more convenient school facilities while this satisfies the demands of tho the sections in question as to convenience and adds three more mixed schools to the four wo we already have it does nothing for tho the equally int im demand of the central part of the district for better school facilities the central schoolhouse that we now have will accommodate only about one half the pa pupils that attend the central schools for F or several years this obstacle has been overcome by renting 0 a school building however this condition is not desirable F first arst because we are not always certain that such a building in can bo be procured it separates the graded schools so that the unity of work cannot be carried out as it otherwise would N be if i all the graded schools were held in one buil building din necessary school improvements cannot be made to grounds and buildings 0 that are aide not owned by the district this last point is an important one because tidy surroundings roun dings and neat buildings and school furniture areas necessary as good teachers schoolhouses should bo be the finest and best equipped oi of any public buildings no others are used so much as these and in no others is so much of the character of a commil community mity f formed ormed 1 there the children of the rich and all alie 0 poor are brought together under the same conditions to receive receive their first lessons in obedience and respect for the rights of others there are planted the fundamental principles of the characters which shall in the future rule the town and the states state no other question so honestly demands the hie interest attention and support of the public as that relating to the education of their children A first estimate of the condition of a community can be had bad in no better way than to visit their public schools and there observe how the children are trained for the duties of life |
