Show DECREASE IN FECUNDITY the colored race thins out as it bomea corn north th frederick J brown of baltimore supports with statistics the claim that contrary to the views held by census officials the trend ot at colored migration Is from the southern to the northern states says an exchange this migration i he thinks I 1 Is on the increase he finds from a study ot of the natural increase of the colored population that the rate decreases as one goes from the south to the north thus while it Is 25 per cent la in ten years in florida in south carolina and georgia it la Is in north carolina in the border states 64 and in the northern states 37 or possibly less iss but the actual rate ot of the increase of the colored population of the north in ten years was nearly 21 per cent and the differ ence between this and the rate ot at natural increase Is ascribed by mr brown to migration from the south sir mr brown also shows that there are greit great inequalities in the distribution ot of the colored people in the south in some sections the negroes enormously outnumber ber the whites as in south carolina and along the pl from memphis nearly to new orleans and in these sections the ds disparity parity is increasing the other sections the negro is almost nonexistent averaging only about I 1 per cent of 0 the total population this la is notably true of nearly one halt half ot of the state ot of texas it la Is further pointed out that in these sections the white population Is 3 increasing faster than tho average |
