| Show UTAH COUNTY KICKING The Dams Must Not be Kept in the Jordan River They say they are going to suo us and now wo want to be sued was the remark made yesterday by Secretary Charles Smith of the Utah County Lake association associa-tion Mr Smith continued and explained the nature of his grievances as follows Four or five of us went out yesterday and pulled a foot of planking out of Jordan river which had been placed there by the i Salt Lake canal companies contrary to the agreement entered into between the lake commissioners of the two counties There was another foot of planking in the river but it was spiked down and we couldnt get it out without getting wet so we left it for the present The Salt Lake canal companies com-panies have been putting dams in the Jordan Jor-dan river and we have been pulling them out all spring According to the agreement entered into by the commissioners of the two counties they have no right to place these obstructions in the river They have violated their agreement for the past two years without our consent This spring we told the commissioners of Salt Lake county we wanted the planks taken out and they ordered them taken out Morgan Evans of Lehi took them out and the canal companies put them back in again and thats the way it has been going on all spring Now we are going to serve an injunction on them to compel them to I let Jordan river run free and they are going to start suit against us We are all ready for them and have got our attorneys hired We expect it will cost three or four thousand dollars to fight this case but we expect to make the Salt Lake canal companies com-panies pay it We dont want to injure Salt Lake county but we dont propose to allow them to flood us out Nearly a mile of the street railroad has been flooded and if the dam had been allowed to remain in 3000 acres of farming land in Utah county would be flooded and and ruined And then this rising and falling of the lake creates a great deal of sickness in the towns of Utah county Oh we cant allow them to keep those planks in its no use a talkin g Enquirer |
