| Show PERSONAL POLITICS Dubois and Clagget Engage in a Corresponden If FOR THE GOOD OF IDAHO ALONE f The Democrats Enjoy the Fun and Particularly Particu-larly the Declarations of Disinterested Patriotism which Both ake DBELLEVUE Idaho April 30Special telegram to TIE HEKALD Fred T Dubois and William H Claggett both alleged al-leged Unitod Statss Senatorselect for 1 Idaho are now having a brilliant fight through the Idaho papers in which italics are prolificacy intermingled with lowercase lower-case and full caps It is My Dear Mr I Claggett and My Dear Mr Dubois until un-til the truly Democratic partisan does not know which horn of the Republican delema to hang to Both Claggett and Dubois are patrictacally devoted to the best interests of country at large the Republican party in particular and are sublimly indifferent to their own Amidst all humble senatorial asquations a the newspaper controversy between Clag gett and Dubois in the Republican papers there is apatriotic spirit that i elevating if not inspiriting between Claggett ando and-o Dubois The former blandly says in a recent re-cent letter t his antaganist You are mistaken in assuming that I look upon the senatorial controversy a a personal per-sonal matter or that I want t have any personal controversy over it The responsibility for any charge of personal 1 ties does not rest upon me or my friends I have at all times abstained from them and requested my friends in Idaho and especially the Republican press there friendly to me to avoid all personality in the discussion of the subject although I have ever since last December been most grossly abused by the papers in Idaho which are known a your especial champions cham-pions I have not seen in any Republican paper friendly to me anything of an abusive character towards yourself This is in part at least due to me t my request A similar request from you t your organs would not have been amiss When such noble sentiments prevail there is no show of the American people being left In the shuffle Sugar Trust Investigation Report ALBANY N Y April ROThe senato I committee this corning submitted a voluminous i f t vol-uminous renort on the Sugar trust investi J gation I speaks of the 10 per cent dividends divi-dends and fabulous valuation placed upon I the stock of the constituent corporation I The report says it was plainly one of the I chief purposes of the trust to provide for r the issue of certificates affording opportunity oppor-tunity for great speculation obviously to the advantage of the persons managing the trust and to the disadvantage of the general gen-eral public who were ignorant of the so crets of the trust Referring to the refusal jot the trust officials to show the books the report says it is for the people to determine deter-mine whether the refusal was because these books would show the trust was using the combination for illegal purposes The report questions whether the enormous enorm-ous dividends have been earned the legiti mate refining of sugar and calls attention to the widespread speculation in securities It is recommended that legislation be had 1 restraining the formation of trusts as hostile I hos-tile to the people or providing for their formation under the supervision of the state that they be compelled to keep books for account or that copies in the state be subject to examination by duly appointed accountants |
