Show A MERRY CHRISTMAS HOW THE DAY WAS OBSERVED TN SLTIJAK Musical Services Held ut Several of The Churches Concert and Ball Other Affairs I was the merriest Christmas that ever dawned in Utah Everywhere in this city there was fqasting and good feeling and the wants of the needy were looked after by committees and individuals the contributions con-tributions to charity being generous and cheerfully given The day was remarkable for the innumerable in-numerable family gatherings social parties and hops given and while the places of amusement were heavily patronized pat-ronized there were very large congregations congre-gations were held at all churches where services At the Cathedral The Christmas services were held at St Marys yesterday morning at the same hours as on Sunday at 8 9 and 1 At 1 oclock mass Bishop Scanlan delivered an eloquentaddress on Christmas Christ-mas Father OMahoney sang high mass Mozarts 12th mass was beautifully beauti-fully rendered by the strong choir organized or-ganized for the occasion Miss Harley Joshua L Carlisle and Father Rochehead sang Ave Maria by Owens as an offertory Mr Carlisle sang exceedingly well the beautiful solo 0 Salutaris At St Marks A particularly fine musical pro gramme was rendered at St Marks yesterday morning By request it will be repeated at the morning service Sunday Swedish Lutheran Special Christmas services were held at the Swedish Lutheran Zions church yesterday morning English Lutheran At the English Lutheran church of the Holy Trinity in St Marks hall a childrens Christmas festival was held last evening I was largely attended and time the little ones had a delightful tme A Christmas Ball The largest crowd yet seen at the ParkerChristensen hall assembled there last evening to enjoy the Christmas Christ-mas ball The grand march began at 9 oclock about sixty couples falling inline in-line and dancing was enjoyed till a late or rather early hour this morning morn-ing The management of the affair was in 6apablehaids Copccft arid l3aI1 The Christmas concert and ball at Cliffs hal last evening brought out a large audience The concert was a delightful de-lightful one and comprised a piano duet by Miss Rose Vice and Professor Pedersen Vocal solos by John Robinson Robin-son Mrs Lizzie thomas Edwards a lra Cornet solo by Mr E noW l J violin solo by Master Arthur Pedersen recitations reci-tations by Alfred OTlsen andR trio composed of Mrs Edwards and Messrs Robinson and Nilsen After the concert the hall was cleared and the dancers Held possession posses-sion of the floor until a late hour |
