| Show A CATASTROPHE AVERTED How the Driver Handled Six Horses and a Band Wagon But for the presence of mind and skill of a driver in the employ of the circus a terrible accident would have occurred yesterday morning The parade waa passing down State street below the 1 Eagle gate and the grade was so steep that it was found impossible to check the big band wagon containing the colored band and drawn by six horses The brakes were applied but without any effect ef-fect and the horses soon commenced to run At the foot of the street there was an immense crowd of people and it looked as though the galloping horses would charge into them when the driver skillfully wheeled the outfit into the east curb at just the right angle to keep the wheels on the ground and stop the horses All who witnessed the performance were loud in their praises of the driver for his skill and nerve |
