I Old Commercial Advertiser Building Burned NEW YanK Sept 15A fire broke out in the old Commercial Advertiser building at 915 this morming In fifteen minutes the flames were boyoud control Many people were in the building and some of them had to slide down the fire escape through dense smoke I is believed all escaped From the first it was seen nothing could save the building and attention was directed to saving adjoining property There were numerous narrow escapes John Gibbs who was on the second floor came down tho fire escape so rapidly his clothes were torn and his hair singed Tnere was considerable scarcity of water at the commencement of the fire At 1020 the fire was under control A few minutes later the outer walls of the entire Fulton front fell with a crash and so great wa the concussion windows were shattered in the Bennett building but no one was injured in-jured The building was occupied by cloth LAF1 cloak and jewelry firms printers etcv k o t J The total loss on the stock and building is estimated at 400090 most of which is insured in-sured Other estimates place tho loss between be-tween 500000 and 750001 A lot of loose diamonds which were on the tables of diamond dia-mond workers in the building were lost I They lars were valued at several thousand dol
