| Show ANOTHER OF ITS SINS It seems that among the other crimes of which the Republican national committee is guilty is that of sending poor ANNA DICKINSON to the inane asylum It will be remembered that ANNA was employed to deliver Republican speeches during the last campaign at a certain price per speech She went upon the stump and for a time made Rome howl from a Republican standpoint but long before the close of the campaign she was called in the committee declaring that she was doing the party and cause more harm than good This would have been all right if the committee had kept the financial part of the contract which It did not do Instead of making money out of the campaign the fat squeezed from the manufacturers by QCAY IYAXAMAKER and others was withheld from Miss DICKINSON who came out of the business a pauper so to speak Her bad treatment and poverty so preyed upon her mind as to overbalance it for which sad affair the Republican national na-tional committee which broke faith with her may be said to be responsible A letter written by Miss Dickinsons sister to an aunt residing in Indiana has been published and in it is found an explanation ex-planation ANNAS illness together with the cause leading to it The sister writes ANNAS illness is nervous prostration brought on by overwork of brain when physically too weak for it by anxiety grief business worry and our financial condition aggravated by the unjust and wicked treatment of the Republican national committee It brought on continuous insomnia and that resulted on Feb 19 in an access ot high fever and delirium followed later by Intense depressiongreater than ever before and the dread which is one of the worst features of longcontinued nervous prostration In this condition she locked herself in her room and would admit no one nor take in any food On the third day we were obliged to force access and the doctors said I must let her go where they could oblige her to eat or I would become responsible for her mind becoming permanently per-manently ill Absolute rest Is what they proscrIbe pro-scribe for her at present and that she has where she is with the best of care and attention atten-tion kindly given I had a letter from the doctor yesterday He says they have induced her to take food regularly regu-larly and she is beginning to sleep naturally at night That she does not want to converse beyond be-yond expressing her wish for something once ii a while and lies on a lounge most of the day J The doctors say what so many have said before be-fore that after a time she should go to Carlsbad Carls-bad Springs for some months and then have a southern winter but it has been impossible If the men and newspapers who are saying they mean to help her to funds will really do so all this may be accomplished and her health restored re-stored for further good work in the world |
