TH GRIP MICEOEE A Polished Microscope Sl 5 I posed to the Air I I Found to Have upon i the Same Microbe as is Found in the Mucus of a Grip Patient I CHICAGO March 27Dr G W Gentry of this city has secured in a novel way I what he thinks is undoubtedly a microbe of I la grippe The doctor has been studying i the peculiar influenza since its appearance over a year ago He found that thirty four years ago and again sixteen years ago la grippe was epidemic among human beings and that several years ago it attacked at-tacked horses causing the well remembered remem-bered epizootic epidemic Dr Gentry was inclined to believe the earth at inter j j vals passed through a stretch of space im1 j I I S pregnated with what astronomer call i star dust Several days ago it occurred oc-curred to him ho might trap some of i i the dust of microbes Carefully polishing j i a blank microscope slide he took it out i i doors and passed it through the air Plac I ing the slide under his microscope he nn + 0 nn n vu < < UUL uUlucnuneu mI crobes in the field of the instrument He I had the slide mounted and then obtaining some mucus from a patient afflicted with la grippe found in it microbes identical in every respect with those caught in the air I The microbes as described by Dr Gentry are generally of round form varying oc cassioually in outline but always distinctly marked by a series of lines surrounding them Radiating from these lines are others which resemble fine irregular hairs
