| Show LOGAN NEWS S T G E S KIMBALL Agents LOGAN March 27 City Council The Logan city council mot in regular session on Wednesday evening last and all he members were present The first petition peti-tion heard was a request from the dray men of Logan that the license on their business be not exacted in future as it was impossible for them to be protected 1 against parties who carried on the business i without paying the license After some discussion during which the mayor and I Councilor Langton explained the ordinances etc at some length and Joe IS Ricks who acted as spokesman and created I a hulihuh by his humorous palaver stated the case of the draymeu in extenso the matter was dropped Hyrum Ricks and Joseph Knowles asked for a cooperative hydrant at the tenement house on Third street where they live It was found to be the sense of the council I that it could not be granted I I John Widmer a resident in the northern part of town a block east of Main asked i the council to open a street there Two petitions signed by many persons desired the council to open Second and Fourth streets in the Seventh ward from the Canyon road to Logan river A number of citizens of the Fifth ward asked that the street leading north through town to tho upper county road bo repaired Referred ioto the committee on streets Fjeldsted Owen Co and Snow Co were granted liquor licenses I Messrs Ek z Hansen were granted the privilege of placing a shed in the fire lim its for a stone works shop providing it i should be covered witb iron Councilor Partington spoke at some I length upon the question of a waterworks I system Ho believed that the fault of the I present system lay in the fact that the pipe from the reservoir to the hill was too small If a larger pipe were laid it would feed tho pipe leading down tho hill as fast as the latter would carry and thus a much larger supply could be secured Again the situation situa-tion of the reservoirs might be changed or the pipes might be laid from the reservoir straight down the hill southward Councilors Hayball and Bench strongly objected to patching up the old system be lieving that the entire city should be sup plied The matter finally went to the committee on waterworks with Councilor Partington associated Mayor Haines and Councilor Thain committee com-mittee on electric light recommended that a light be placed on the island Main street as soon as there was a lamp to spare Adopted The financial statement for the past year was read and ordered filed Reports from the city poundkeeper were rend and referred to the finance committee which committee was authorized to inves tigate the estrny pound ordinance and recommend rec-ommend a better method of conducting the pound affairs than is in vogue at present An ordinance in relation to obstructing the streets with garbage building material etc was read and passed as there was nothing placed on tho ordinance book in that connection The usual claims were allowed and the amounts appropriated included per diem for councilmen during the past year |
