Show InESIDEXT OF THE UNIVERSITY James E TalmaKC Honored by Re ceivlnc the Appointment Professor James E Talmagc was yesterday elected to the honorable office of-fice of president of the University of rtah This result of the meeting of the board of regents of the institution held yesterday morning was forecast I by The Herald Although it was not very generally known the regents have had the professors name under consideration for some time past and the honor could not well be placed upon a more eligible person The business under consideration by the board was of an executive nature and its transaction consumed several hours The matter of the salary schedule sched-ule for the coming year was again referred to the advisory committee which has had the problem under con slaeratlon several times already The members of the new faculty were selected se-lected but their employment now depends de-pends entirely upon the manner in which the proposed further cut in compensations com-pensations is received The advisory c committee will also have this matter in hand I The following committees were appointed I ap-pointed ChancellorRobert Harkness Executive Harkness Thatcher Hills Donnellan and Cannon Building Donnellan Wilson and Daly FinanceHills Donnellan and Daly Advisory Cannon Pierce and Van Cott I Deaf Mutes Harkness Van Cott and Pierce J Land Commission Harkness Dalv L and Hills From the Salt Lake Literary and Scientific association was received avery a-very generous offer to establish a chair of geology and mineralogy at the university uni-versity and loan the institution tire valuable association library apparatus This proposition was accepted with tbank Considerable routine business received receiv-ed attention and the board adjourned subject to call I |
