Show LUMBER MARKETS IMPROVING I Oregon Company Mills Are All in Operation Joseph A West one of the managers of the Oregon Lumber company a Utah institution operating in this territory I I ter-ritory and the state of Oregon was in the city yesterday afternoon on his return to Baker City Oregon from the coast where he has been on special spe-cial business connected with several large Contract the company hopes to secure in California and the other coast states Speaking of the prospects I pros-pects of the company the gentleman stated that cpnsidering the condition of the business of the country they were very flattering All of the mills are now in full operation and turning out over 200000 feet of sawed timber daily The major part of this output comes this way and supplies the entire intermountain country Within the next month several large contracts for mining and railroad timbers upon which the company have been figuring figur-ing will be closed and it is then possible pos-sible that the output of the mills may be increased The Oregon Lumber company has the contract for the large timbers which are to be used in the reconstruction re-construction of the Horn Silver concentrator concen-trator and hoisting works and the delivery de-livery of the timbers is now going steadily on I would have been completed com-pleted by this time had the railroad company furnished the necessary cars for the transportation The Sumpter Valley road built by the company for the of purpose tapping tap-ping a rich timber and mineral region is being operated to its utmost capacity I had been practically decided to make a fifteen mile extension this summer but the project has been abandoned for the present on account of the general gen-eral depression |
