Show PEOPLE CONCERNED or interested in the affairs of the Union Pacific railroad will be rejoiced that the presidency has been placed for the first time in the bands not only of a thorough practical railroad manager man-ager but a genuine western man infused with the western spirit whoso career has been linked with invariable success No doubt it would have been in many respects preferable to Mr S H H CLARK to remain re-main with the Missouri Pacific in St Louis as its vicepresident and general manager and on this account It is understood that heat he-at first declined the presidency of the Union Pacific But in overcoming his objections the directors of the latter corporation have secured in THE HERALDS judgment the very best available executive talent in the country and it is to be hoped Mr CLARK is not to be handicapped in his new and ex alted field by any of the unbusinesslike policies sometimes shown in its past conduct con-duct The roads financial prospects present pre-sent very few allurements even in prosperous pros-perous times but we are sure its entire capabilities will be developed under the skill ability and experience Mr C will bring to the administration |
