Show IN TIlE HotSE The Filibuster on the Silver Bill Continues Washington Feb 19The filibuster over the silver bill in the House con linuel til A cclojk this afternoon when an adjournment was had to give the Democrats an opportunity to consider con-sider the situation in caucus After the opening Marsh of Illinois asked unanimous consent to his bill authorizing the construction of a wing dam canal and power station in the Des Moines rapids of the Mississippi in Hancock county ill The bill passed March 31 was made a special order for tributes to the memory of ONeil of Pennsylvania Pennsy1ania The committee on invalid pensions reported back favorably the < Tawney resolution calling on the secretary of the interior for information regarding suspended pension cases Passed Bland then moved to go into committee com-mittee of the whole on the seigniorage bill that the geneial debate be closed and on that demanded the previous question Democratic and Republican opponents declined to vote and the result was 171 to 4 Two short of a auorum Bland moved a call of the House Dearmond Democrat of Missouri offered a resolution designed to prevent pre-vent filibustering which was referred to the committee on rules The resolution provides that when a member shall have three times refused re-fused t vote when his name is called he shall be brought before the bar of he House and his name called once more I he still refrains from voting he shall be held in contempt of the House and for each offense fined 50 to be deducted from his salary by the er geantatarms and paid into the treasury treas-ury |
