Show WILL TAKE GREELEYS ADVICE I Colony to Come West and Grow Up with the Country San Francisco May 9Several leading lead-ing officials of great labor organizations organiza-tions residents of New York and Chicago have arrived here on their II way to Merced in the San Joaquin valley to examine land thereabouts and establish a colony The colony is to be composed of eastern people entirely I compose tirely I is the intention to purchase 2500 acres of fruit land and establish I 108 families On it Each family is to have 20 acres for farming purposes besides be-sides a house and garden plat in the village which it is proposed to build in the center of the 2500 acres of land The following are the officials Wy man C Pomeroy general organizer of the American federation of labor 1I H Madden president of the Illinois states federation of labor John N Nice president of the Hotel and Restaurant Res-taurant Employees National Alliance and J R Jaffray secretary of the Belvedere Bel-vedere Federated Labor Union The latter organization Is at Belvedere 111 and represents 700 skilled workmen of the sewing machine factory there now closed down The gentlemen have been asked by citizens of Merced to be present today at the Midwinter Fair this being Merced Mer-ced day and exams the exhibits from that section They expect to leave for Merced this evening |
