Show TIlE PRESS CLUB TAKES HOLD Special Committee to Look Alter the Home Industrial Movement The Press club has now taken up the home industry movement and a special committee consisting of the following members has been appointed to aid in the good work J B Bloor J R Xetcher Glen Miller A C Reece John W Hughes E G Ivins and John E Hansen They have just bad printed the following circular letter copies 01 which will be signed by the chairman and distributed throughout this region Salt Lake City March 26 1894 Dear sirA movement has been inaugurated in-augurated by the manufacturers bureau of the Salt Lake city chamber of commerce in the interest of home industries The sentiment is one so vital to all the mining states that the feeling ought to expand so as to embrace em-brace the entire mountain west Heretofore Here-tofore a steady stream of gold and silver sil-ver has flowed eastward from this section sec-tion to pay for manufactured goods this money could easily be kept at home Instead of our laborers being idle many in dire distress they should be employed in converting raw materials ma-terials so plentiful in this region into manufactured goods In this way the money would circulate among ourselves which now goes into the pockets of those who are not in sympathy without with-out interests The home industry sentiment which has been encouraged by the press of the intermountain country is crystallizing crystal-lizing into substantial and practical form In order to further advance this cause and assist those struggling factories fac-tories already established and men who are investigating the resources of this region with a view of establishing others the Salt Lake Press club solicits an expression of your views concerning the possibilities of the movement Hoping to hear from you at an early date Very respectfully This step will not only have a tendency ten-dency to stimulate interest in the movement move-ment throughout the territory but will also result in obtaining much valuable information |
