Show THE SCHOOL BOARD An Organization Effected The Qucstior the Appointment of OJHccrs The new school board met in the courtH chamber yesterday afternoon and organized organ-ized Louis Hyams was elected secretary pro tem and Parley L Williams vicepros dent The board then settled down to business Mr Pike said that the board should qualify by taking the oath of oflice this being be-ing the proper proceeding Mr William asserted that the officers were all ready and qualified the filing of their certificate and taking tho oath of oflice tking ofce constituting qualification Mayor Scott the chairman then held that the board was organized Mr Pyper suggested that the election of a secretary and a school superintendent be postponed until the committee on rules had made its selection of a code of regulations regula-tions Ho put his suggestion in the form of a motion which was seconded by Mr Pike J Mr Williams thought the office of clerk I and superintendent should be filled at once 1 olonel Nelsoa the adopted son of tho old dame with tho new petticoats tuought the I dp iperintendency should go over while the p lace of clerk should be fled at once I Mr Pyper thcujht the election should postponed at least one week because the c hce was one which needs a good man I The board should not be hasty as the man t tt be selected ought of right to be one of the b cst men in the city Mr Pike announced his intention of vot L ng for the best man no matter who he tight be He wanted a goodman as he be l eved the rest of tne board to opine Nelson nmended Pipers motion to postpone post-pone by a motion to elect a clerk at the present meeting The amendment was lost A vote on the original motion was taken and the measure carried and the election was postponed until next meeting Mr Pike moved that a committee of five be appointed on rules whose duty it shall be to report at the next meeting Nelson mended by adding tbat the committee on r rules report a lull set of regulations The iption prevailed and the chair appointed I hiram Johnso William Nelon Win J Newman P L Williams and L H Col bath bathMr Mr Nelson then moved that the names of the candidates for ofllces of clerk and uperintendeiiii be presented The motion prevailed ant Mr Snow presented tho lame of J 13 Morton who has been 1 t cucher in the city seventeen j 6ira Williams nominated JosephLipjmian the protege of the renowned P Hnot Panhandle Pan-handle Patrick Henry Lannan By time time Williams had finisded one might have lungined Joseph to have been a god or omething of that sort Mr Newman presented the name of John N Piker Pike-r Mitceaer presented the name of JOun M Martin of tie Sevuutli vVald Nelson then arose and seconded P Hs boy Joe Who he said was a good man gool Kelson then nominated Poet Collins of the Fourteenth ward as a candidate for school superintendent Mr Colbath presented the name of J M lillspaugh The latter is one el the smart cL men in the world i Colbuth is 1 authority Mr Williams then presented the lame of George P Beura of Vermont because as he said the gentleman bad requested him Iso I-so to do Mr Nelson then moved that the hoard I consider no application from any candidate outside of registered voters of the city Mr Nelson then moved that the board I adjourn oclock until Wednesday evening at S i |
