| Show FIANCE AND MINING i Midsummer Dullness Less Noticeable Notice-able Than Usual BIG ORE AND BULLION OUTPUT The Greatest of All Teams Mining and I Agriculture Which Utah Alone Can Drive Successfully Midsummer dullness is noted in some lines of trade but it is not nearly so pronounced pro-nounced as it has bodkin previous years and taken alto ct 2in present condition condi-tion of trade remaicj rfectly satisfactory and our merchants are sitting upon the top rail of prosperity The sound of tho hammer and the saw echo and reecho throughout our business I and residence streets and almost daily there are new excavations for either buildings build-ings or residences made The larger buildings build-ings the business blocks more particularly have i regressed rather slowly owing to a variety of reasons but much better progress pro-gress is now being made and it will not belong be-long ere the monuments of progress and prosperity will present a very imposing appearance ap-pearance Real estate remains quiet although there are numerous inquiries and dealers say there are strong symptoms of a most decided de-cided awakening in the early fail The passage of tho compromise bill has had a most excellent effect in mining circles cir-cles and the constant advance in silver and the firmness of lead promise to cause renewed activity in many mining camps that have for many years been under a cloud Renewed activity in our mining camps means increased prosperity for Salt Lake the great mining centre of the territory tory and surrounding states The stock exchange has been quite lively during the past seven days and it may now bo said to be upon a permanent basis one of tho biggest institutions of this great and rapidly growing city Themining outlook was never before so bright Crop prospects were never better The two combined make a powerful team and one that Utah alone can drive I is a most gratifying report that the wellknown firm of R G Dun Co give in their usual annual summary of the business busi-ness outlook of Salt Lake city as follows The progress noted in the devel preceding two reports has oped into a new era that promises unprecedented un-precedented prosperity for the coming year All leading cities of this section have had a remarkable increase in property prop-erty valuations which is firmly maintained I by a strong demand extensive building operations and continued public improvements improve-ments All crops with the exception of fruits present a certainty of being larger I and finer than for many years past and the I shipment of produce greater in consequence conse-quence The yearly wool clip heretofore estimated at 11000000 pounds and the excellent ex-cellent condition of the cattle interests with tile good prices prevailing will place a large section upon firmer basis With an annual mineral production of 10000000 the legislation favorable to silver and lead is infusing new life into these industries that will result most beneficially to busi ness Trade prospects in existing lines are most excellent and large additions to the banking capital of leading points is furnishing furnish-ing cheaper money and improved facilities the only feature subject to adverse criticism criti-cism is the lack of extension in the jobbing trade The local markets seem unable to control over a fifth of the trade at their doors and but little progress is made in keeping country business at home Freight discrimination is responsible for this and local interests dependent upon railroad facilities continue at a standstill large capital that could be profitably employed in jobbing is diverted to other locations and the future shows but few indications of relief |
