| Show I THE TINTIO COUNTRY How Its Great Mines and Brilliant Prospect Strike a Salt Laker To get a proper conception of the great resources of this intermountain country one must personally visit the different mining camps of this vicinityto fully understand their magnitude a magnitude of such diminsions that it is far beyond human calculation or even conception About the only idea one gets that becomes a fact is to know the production in tonnage ton-nage and value its cost of production and the great profit it gives To more fully illustrate the ignoranceof the citizens of this city a to the mining camps of this immediate im-mediate vicinity I will say that in my four months residence here I have in several instances asked for information I informa-tion about the Tintic mining district dis-trict but from no resident trct of this city could I get anything of a definite r nature but from several Colorado mining men I got far more I dont wish to be understood un-derstood as drawing any comparisons between be-tween the Utah and Colorado miner but this 1 do wish to say and especially for the good of Salt Lake and its mining country that if the Tintic mining district was in Colorado its fame would be known throughout through-out the entire United States of America man woman and child and Every chid every newspaper of the state would by some means send the news abroad of its wonderful wonder-ful wealth Where is there one who has not heard of Leadville Aspen Ouray and a host of others 1 And in all of these camps the record of every mine is well known while here you find it dif ult and in many cases impossible to get any information in-formation about the great mines around here To me it seems the better policy to make these records public a no other form of advertisement can compare with It so well a hard stubborn facts made generally gen-erally public A vist to the Tintic country will more than repay anyone for time and expense of such a trip To go there and see such great mines as there are will surprise any old miner I will say this That i its tonnage and probably in values it is equal if not in advance of Colorados great camp Aspen As-pen Not since the early days of Leadville of which I a a pioneer have I seen amore a-more promising camp than Tintic and in every respect the cheapest mines to work in every particular large bodies of high grade ore and a territory of unknown magnitude mag-nitude throughout which I am convinced the judicious expenditure of money would surely bring great profits in return Knowing Know-Ing all this the query suggests itself t me Why are the people of this city so slow in siezing some of these great opportunities The mighty dollar which we all are breaking break-ing our necks to get is there beyond any question The prospectors are there with their prospects willing to give any one with a little money more than the lions share The railroads usually take some Interest in advertising mining camps but here is one whose value to the railroad Is simply enormous Yet you hear nothing from it about the great mining camp called Tintic and the manner of accomcdation you receive re-ceive from this railroad would convince i you before your arrival there that it was as the old miner would say a one horse otd woult ay camp You are carried there in an olct car that I will wager was bought by tha U P railroad at the beginning of the first running of trains from Omaha twentysix or more years ago and it i a question if J the car was not an old one then This car is attached to a freight train both going and coming so your getting to and from there is a question that cannot be settled until your trip is completed j That Tintic is entitled to better railroad J accommodations no one can question It a should have a first class passenger service independent of any freight The people are entitled to it From present indications indica-tions the R G W will soon be there Then with competition we shall surely have better service My time being limited I shall in my next try to give some facts and figures as to the production of the camp S |
