| Show A Petrified Corpse Spccialto THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch BnooKLTN N Y > Jan 2 0The official of Cypress Hill were told Monday that the booy of a man had been brought there which from its peculiar appearance had had better be examined before burial It appears that Andrew Beck a former resident resi-dent of Brooklyn had died in Kernble I Pike county Penna in 1SS4 and was buried there The children of tho deceased determined to have their parents body rest in the family vault here and permission was obtained from the Kemble authorities for the transfer When tue casket contain ing the remains reached here Monday its is heavy weight caused comments by the men who were carrying it and Frederick Beck one of the dead mans sons had the casket opened To the great astonishment of all concerned instead of finding a framo al bones they were confronted with the face of the dead man as full as when in life The skin looked like parchment and was thickly covered with a damp dark brown deposit t One of those present took out his handkerchief handker-chief and proceeded to brush away the coating of him from the face but no sooner had he doue so than ho gave vent to a cry of alarm for the flesh of the dead man had felt to his hind as hard as stone Then a grave digger rapped on the face and body with his knuckles and the result was a sharp ringing sound An investigation was made forthwith and the body and limbs were found to boas hard adamant Super intendent Butt then made an investigation and satisfied himself that the body had been petrified and the remains were lowered I low-ered to their final resting place |
