Show Corbctts Opinion of Fitzsimmons Special to THE HEUALD Examiner Dispatch PHILADELPHIA March 4Jim Corbett was asked by a correspondent what he thought ot Fitzsimmons Ho said He has shown himself a corking good man and in my opinion ho is now justified fighting any of the heavyweights While he fought at 154 pounds he was not thought to be a match for a heavyweight but since he i scaled 170 pounds against Maher he ought to fight heavyweights He is game clever and a hard hitter and would probably make it warm for anyone In answer to a question of whether he would fight Fitzsimmons now Corbett said It was and is my intention to go to England in May to see the SlavinJackson fight and then at the ring side I will challenge chal-lenge the winner But if Fitzsimmons wants to fight me before then let him challenge me and I will attend to him I deposited 1000 at the New York World office to guarantee my appearance in the ring against either Slavin or Jackson but I will now add Fitzsimmons to that list and if he covers that forfeit I will fight him before be-fore any club outside of the California Athletic club that offers the largest purse He would probably weigh about the same as he did when he faced Maher and I should go about ISO pounds so that there would not bo much difference I am willing to fight Fitzsimmons before I go to England Eng-land and then if I lick him I will fight the winner of the JacksonSlavin fight in the fall |
