Show PROVOe UIDAT February 19 NATURAL WAS Provo People Have the Fever and Will Bore For It The allabsorbing topic on the streets yesterday was that of the gas prospects Old residents of Provo are confident that in close proximity can be found enormous quantities and it is a well known fact that in the Fourth ward where a Great many wells have been sunk gas discoveries have been frequent Yesterday a committee appointed by the Qamber of commerce in company with Major Knapp a well known gas expert made a tour over the old prospects ana the reports are all favorable The committee consisting of R A Barney W N Dusen berry and William Probert will continue their investigations and experiments and the result is anxiously looked for by the citizens generally A CELEBRATED CASE George Whitmore came to Provo yesterday yester-day to look after the celebrated gold brick case which came before the grand jury Larry King is the individual whom Mr Whitmore is after and judging from the evidence before the commissioners court last fall the hopes foe Mr King are very gloomy Several witnesses identified him in his heated journey from Provo to Salt Lake at the time of the swindle A liveryman livery-man from Lohi who drove the crook to Salt Lake was positive that the man before be-fore the court was the same person FIRST DISTRICT COURT The following business was before the court yesterday Gunnison Irrigation Co vs North Six Mile Irrigation Co motion for a new trial denied exception taken order staying execution ex-ecution denied Gunhison Irrigation company vs J Pea cock et al motion for a now trial overruled over-ruled and stay of execution denied James Thompson vs A E Linkliter dismissed at the cost of the plaintiff Chas Harris vs Ben Bachman dismissed dis-missed at the cost of the defendant The court will resume session this morning morn-ing at 10 oclock AMUSEMENTS Frederick Warde has occasion to remember remem-ber his visit to Provo from the large and enthusiastic audience which came out to witness his performance of The Lions Mouth on Wednesday evening The admiration of the listeners was first directed to the young hero and then to the villainous monk which was taken by Mr Herman The honors were divided between be-tween these two characters with the greater applause for Mr Ware The absence ab-sence of the leading lady was at once notable Miss Bowman was given considerable consid-erable favor Tonight the Womans Suffrage society will occupy the theatre giving a grand ball and supper On Saturday evening there will be mirth for the young people who witness the war displays at the opera house I The Opera House military band was engaged I en-gaged in rehearsing some new overture I last night at the Music hall A CHANGE The Provo Lumber and Building company com-pany is now being operated under tho efficient management of Reed Smoot vice George S Taylor resigned |
