Show The Colorado Utes HERALD BUREAU Corner of loth and G Sts N W V WASHINOTON D C Fob 18 j The House committee on Indian affairs today heard arguments for and against the bill ratifying the treaty made with the Colorado Utes for their removal from their present reservation in Colorado to San Juan county Utah The measure was advocated ad-vocated by Senator Teller and opposed by Messrs Painter Kane and Riker of Philadelphia adelphia who represented the Indian Rights association Delegate Caine who was here sent to protect the interests of the settlers in San Juan county and to oppose the removal of the Ute on general principles could not be heard today for lack of time but will have a hearing at some future day The memorial on the subject adopted by the Utah legislative assembly has I not yet I been received I valuable at all it should be here now Fred Simon of Salt Lake late president of the chamber of commerce today presented pre-sented President Harrison with the satin satn souvenir certificate of stock a description of which has already appeared in THE HERALD He was presented by Delegate Caine and made a very nice little speech to the pros perity of the city and the better feeling existing between the different parties President Harrison received him cordially cordialy and seemed to appreciate the souvenir of his visit to the chamber |
