Show AntiOption Bill Hearings WASHINGTON Feb iSThe sub committee commit-tee of the Senate committee ou judiciary listened this morning to an argument in opposition to the Washburn bill made by Samuel Allerton of Illinois who stated ho has been a practical farmer for the past thirty years He said the prompter of this bill seemedoto be the mill combine controlled by English capital It was designed de-signed to destroy the Chicago market the greatest market center in the world Al lerton asserted if future trading in Chicago Chi-cago was limited and hampered by laws the market there would be destroyed and tho millers of Minnesota could buy their wheat cheaper Senator Washburn stated it was not to the interests of the miller to have cheap wheat J H Norton shipper of Chicago argued ar-gued against tho bill D B Smith of Toledo argued the bill instead of proving beneficial to agriculturalists agricultur-alists would have a contrary effect it would prove the most disastrous legisla tion over inflicted and hour on the business busi-ness interests of the land President Bacon of the Milwaukee board of trade in behalf of that body requested re-quested the House committee on asricul ture that legislation bo delayed on the antioption bill and that a Congressional investigation of the subject of futures be made during the recess of Congress He maintained the system enabled pro ducers to dispose of their crops mora readily than would otherwise be the case |
