Show AMUSEMENTS THE OLD HOMESTEAD There are some things in the theatrical world that never seem to grow old and Denman Thompsons Old Homestead is one of them We know the piece almost well enough to prompt It and we were fully aware that Thompson himself was not in the cast yet we rallied in goodly numbers at the theater last evening to inhale in-hale once more the breath from the pines and leaves and stacks and green fields about Swanzy The cast Is much the same as that with which the piece was done here once before The old original and inimitable Cy Prime waa missing it is true and his loss was felt good as Mr Dean undeniably is Mr Aliens Seth Perkins was always a true and delightful characterization but it has Improved with age The other characters are capable and the old fashioned homely idea was immensely im-mensely carried out Tho singing of the quartette was thoroughly delightful and was deservedly encored As for Mr Boyd he is just as near Denman Thompson as he can be and retain his own identity He is not the artist Thompson is and the respects re-spects in which he falls short of him are the magnrtism and pathossthat Thompson exercises and the thousand and one little oddities and byplays with which he invests the character of the honest old farmer Had we never seen Denman Thompson Mr Boyd would be I triumph but having seen Thompson it is impossible to forget him let his substitute be as excellent as he may The piece goes again tonight AL HAYMAK IN SALT LAKE Al Hayman far away the livest luckiest and most enterprising manager in America Amer-ica dropped down
