Show IWILL THEY RETIREm I I I Bennett and Brown Deny the Report OTHERS SAY THE REPORT IS TRUEm Babcock Mentioned as Bennetts Successor The Salt Lake Santa Fe Brotiier hood Railway Carmen The rumor published in yesterdays t HERALD to tho effect that Messrs Bennett t and Brown two of the most prominent local officials of the Rio Grande Western I would soon remove the ballast from the I ties which held them in the service caused I a considerable stir in railway circles yesterday yes-terday although several persons heard of it on Tuesday The large circle of acquaintances ac-quaintances enjoyed by both gentlemen I were naturally much interested in learning the truth of the matter and many inquiries I I were made by the patrons of tile Little Giant A HERALD representative called I at headquarters yesterday and was informed in-formed that the rumor was without foundation I foun-dation Mr Bennett was up to his ears in work but laid it aside long enough to say Tnere is nothing whatever to it no foundation foun-dation for it and not a wink of truth in it A call upon Agent Brown brought forth I a very emphatic denial Between working moments he announced There is not i any more truth in that statement which appeared in THE HERALD thanthatyou are going to be president I think I have a very good idea where the information informa-tion camefrom it was stated for personal interest and prompted by a malicious purpose pur-pose but it was nIl made out of whole cloth II THE HERALD has no interest in tho matter mat-ter whatever except to give the news Owing to the lajeaess of tbo hour when the statement came to us on Tuesday night it Impossible to learn all the details de-tails but it corroborated by such authority auth-ority ns to indicate that it was not without foundation Further inquiry yesterday strengthened the report and to an unprejudiced unpre-judiced mind it certainly looks as though there was something in the report despite the tact that the two gentlemen immediately immediate-ly concerned have hoard nothing of it It is claimed that tho statement was made only a few days ago by General Dodge to a gentleman who is now in this city and he is not the only one who has heard of it It was also stated yesterday on pretty good authority au-thority that S H Babcock would be Mr Bennetts successor If it should turn out that there is no truth in the report then the successor of Ananias must be located in these parts and at all events the truth or Jatsity of it will demonstrated within thirty days THE HERALD entertains the I most kindly feelings towards both gentlemen gentle-men and knowing their worth and ability hopes it may prove to be without foundation founda-tion At the same time it must be confessed con-fessed that the information we have supports sup-ports the statement strongly |
