| Show The City of Paris and the Adriatic Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch PARIS April llBy cable to the N Y World Ballard Smith cables the following regarding re-garding the denial of the statement that the captain of the Adriatic refused to tow the City of Paris to the nearest Irish harbor Undoubtedly Undoubt-edly the captain of the Adriatic acted within the letter of the law By their contract withthe English postal authorities the ships people are not allowed to stop their steamers except to save life Therefore the formal offer of the captain of the Adriatic to take back the passengers passen-gers to New York was in full compliance with the letter of the law but the offer was as though a lawyer in agreeing to defend a client in some small case should ask an Impossible fee We were at the time only some hundred and fifty miles from Bantry bay But tho most important consideration and the chief reason for criticismS criticism-S J of the Adriatic was that she hardly slowed up in passing us She did not even wait to see if a towing hawser could be successfully attached by the Aldersgatc An hours delay was not only courteous on the part of the Adriatic but was really demanded By the time the hawser was attached by the Aldcrsgate the Adriatic was half a dozen miles astern |
