Jt Was a Very Pretty Jangle The case of Colonel H A V Ferguson I charged with assaulting his landlord Robert Rich ville came up for trial before Judge Laney yesterday and it was one of the most bitterly contested cases ever tried I in the police court Half a dozen able attorneys at-torneys participated in the affair and the feeling ran so high at times that it looked as though Mayor Scott might have to be calltu in to read the riot act Matters which had no relevancy to the issue were dragged in and the careers of the parties from their birth to the present time were laid bare It seems that Ferguson had a quarrel with Richvillo over the use of a Kitchen and it was claimed that the doughty Colorado lawyer slugged his landlord under the ear There was a big conflict in the evidence on every point brought out material and immaterial im-material and after the attorneys had worn themselves out the question was almost too intricate for even Solomon Laueys wisdom He finally found the defendants not guilty W D Burton and Walter Porcher pleaded guilty to the charge of trespass and were sent up for twelltY days each i The So drunks were C Dregal P Sullivan Sul-livan George Bock John Rooks John Doe H C Margetts W J Riley and John Lawrence
