Show AMUSEMENTS THE JJURGLAR U Joe Grismer and Phoebe Davies occupy a position all their own they are a sort of western Mr and Mrs Kendall in tho rela tirns they occupy toward a big admiring clientele their long association as artists and husband and wife and in their manner of choosing plays that evenly divide th honors between both No attraction is surer of a fine opening in Salt Lake than Grismer and Davies and it is the same everywhere else throughout the territory and the west In spite of the widespread complaint of poor theatrical business those artists move on the undeviating road of prosperity In Logan they had a 400 house in Ogden a big audience Provo 1 always gives them a big reception and last but not least came the enterprising sachar ine community with an offer of 5300 for one night in Lohi The audience at the theatre last evening was an excellent ono and it testified warmly to its appreciation of the attraction It is just a year ago since Grismer and Davies played the same piece here It is still well remembered most people know that the play of The Burglar is an elongation by Augustus Thomas of Mr Francis Hodgson Burnetts Edithas Burglar that dainty sketch from the third act of Thomas play and he has very cleverly fitted to it first second an fourth acts The play is moat charming and interesting The Burnett actthat between a burglar and an inno crnt childis of course enchanting The play is not a very pleasant one owing to its denouement but it affords an opportunity oppor-tunity for Mr Grismer Miss Davies and the little girl Laura Crews to do some excellent ex-cellent acting and obtain some warm curtain cur-tain calls Mr Grirmer was specially good in act three and four and ho and the child had the whole house sobbing when the wicked burglar discovers in tho little girl who aids him in the burglary his own child The support was good throughout through-out better in fact than Mr Grismer has given us for some years Tonight the same company give the new play Fern cliff and The Burglar will be repeated at the matinee tomorrow WONDERLAND There are two reasons why Wonderland should be packed at every performance today I to-day The first reason Is tho new pro i gramme is very strong comprising every line of excellent amusement The second reason is that today is souvenir day and I according to the custom of the house the usual handsome present will be given to every lady visitor Yesterday Miss Belle Carter the young lady with the horses mane was the centre of attraction and close observation by every visitor Her case is really a very remarkable one and its i it-s said no other case of a similar nature exists i ex-ists in the world George Edwards the king of minstrelsy and Ethiopian art is here again He keeps the audience in a constant con-stant roar the whole time he was on the stage It is a tip top snow |
