Show BRIGHAM BRIEFS The Chronic KickerWanted a Motor Line All Sorts Brigham City is like a great many other towns We have some citizens who are progressive and are willing to do all in their power to build up the town while others are chronic kickers and some dont care what goes ou and ethers are decidedly I opposed to any kind of public improvements improve-ments For tile size of the town you can find more back numbers in Brigham City than you can within a radius of 200 miles Wlien the subject of lighting up our town by electricity was broached cold water was thrown on the proposition and the original company became disheartened so that when strangers came in they gladly sold out to them The parties who bought the stock took hold of the mater m earnest and they have just finished putting in their plant On account of JLhe necessary trials Ito I-to test the machinery and circuit the lights have not been burning steady I told you so was the instant remark of I our worthy billious kickers intimating that the lights were of no account forgetting the fact that it was necessary to make these trials in order to find out if everything every-thing was all O K The next public improvement talked of and under discussion at thd present time was waterworks These same kickers cry out that we are going too last and that we cannot afford to put in a system of waterworks water-works it will be too much expense They have become so accustomed to drinking water out of the public ditches that are lined here and there with manure and other malarial debris that the idea of getting the pure article is too strong for their stomachs pockets They say that we cannot get water that is purer than widen we obtain from the public water ditches Perfonal observation has developed the following facts Everyone In town owning own-ing horses and cows lets them out to go to these same ditches to drink These same stock are not content to stand on the brink and drink but almost invariably they wash their feet in the water besides making mak-ing other additions not necessary to mention men-tion These same men are willing to drink that kind of water all their lives and if able would compel others to do the same In consequence of so much kicking the citizens are getting somewhat interested in the outcome Some say that those worthies kick because they were not the ones to start these improvements Some say that they do it because they cannot see a nickel at their nose and others that it has a political tical side to it because those estimable feet lifters are Republicans while those who are working hardest for it are Democrats So goeth tho talk Notwithstanding all the talk we will have a good system of waterworks i I water-works which will enable us to live longer i have bettor health besides furnishing bettor protection against fires as well as other acvantages too numerous to mention I During the pall two weeks the citizens of our town have been acitating the idea of having the Utah Hot Spring company EXTEND TUB SIOTOR TO BIUQUAM CITY Their motor line at present runs frbm the Ogden city limits to the Utah Hot springs and by extending the line to Brigham City it would necessarily pass through Willard and Three Mile Creek giving all of the i above named places better connections with Ogden Owing to the fact tact tho Union Pacific railway is i tho only connection we have with our southern neighbors the abov named soulless corporation seemed to have imbibed the idea that they own tho town and can do just as they please The citizens see that they can partly retaliate on the above named corporation by Having the motor line extended to Brigham and giving that line most if not all of their patronage Lust night the citizens of our town held a meeting in the Second ward hall were the subject was partly discussed and a committee com-mittee appointed to investigate the matter thoroughly and report at another meeting Past experience tells us that the Union Pacific when it finds we are in earnest will send a man around with contracts for the business men to sign to ship all their freight from the east via the Old reliable and in consideration of such signing the above named company in a spasm of generosity will possioly lower the rates one or two cents Just enough to tie up the merchants for two or three years A nice little game of freezeout Suffice it to say that the first railroad coming to Brigham City from the south will receive consider able encouragement ALL THINGS Tho B C M M association held Its annual meeting last week and elected aboard a-board of directors besides declaring a dividend of 3 per cent The population of our town is increasing very rapidly at least nurses are in good demand de-mand and rumor says that there are more girls than boys Informhtion which is deemed reliable states that as far as the social evil is concerned our city is not backward on thafopoint Scandal is brewing and in the mixing well known parties names are mentioned men-tioned Rumor also states that a certain house now in course of erection Is being built especially for the residence of some of the demi monde class Who says we are not on the road of progress Last Monday night 1 number of citizens metin the Rosenbaum hal to discuss the advisability of establishing a cannery hero A committee was appointed to investigate and report one week from that date The people of Willard are also agitating the subject of a cannery Our merchants report business rather dull prospects are beginning to look brighter The physicians report the health of tho people as being good very fow cases of a 1J > |
