Show Victims of the Flood PITTMIUKG Pa May 11The bodies of two men victims of last nights flood were found this morning making four deaths so far reported Their names are John John Dougherty and John Cochner The loss in this lion vicinity will be at least half a mil lionA A great deal of damage was done in Pleasant Pleas-ant valley Alleghany county as the rain poured down the hill si lea converting the streets into channels for turbulent rivets varying from a few inches to several feet in depth and reaching from wall to wall Earth and debris wero dumped on the street by the wagon load A number of street cars were unable to get to the stables on account of the immense amount of earth dumped onto the tracks A number of passengers pas-sengers returning from the theatre and elsewhere in order to keep out of the drenching rain had gone beyond their accustomed ac-customed stopping places expecting to return egt PiVh turn in other g f Where the cars were blockaded tho water was nearly two feet deep and it poured in through the doorways and over the floors and the unfortunate passengers took refuge from the invading waters by standing on the seats The drivers and other employees of the road were wading about in the water above their knees while they were being soaked above by drenching drench-ing rain At McKeesport the storm did thousands of dollars worth of damage In Crooked Run district fifty houses were moved from their foundations and several toppled over and demolished The people had to seek the hillsides to escape drowning while a large number of horses and cattle were drowned and many children were taken out of beds floating in the second stories of houses and their lives saved Twentyfive carloads of debris are lodged at the iron bridge on Fifth avenue I consist of lumber wagons and household house-hold goods No lives have been lost but many narrow escapes are reported On the Pittsburg McKeesport Yough ogheny railroad a freight train was wrecked by running into a landslide and a brakeman brake-man killed This makes five deaths directly attributable to the floods |
