Show THE SKY IS BRIGHT The Union Pacific Meeting Held ill Boston Yesterday IT IS ALL COMING OUR WAY Tronble In the Denver Camp Daniels Appointment Ap-pointment General Glimpse of Railway Rail-way Matters General Items A dispatch from Boston received in this city yesterday says A special meeting of the directors of the Union Pacific was held this morning A draft of the annual report was submitted and in connection with it the question of resumption of dividends dends was considered It appears the company com-pany earned during 18b3 about 2400000 which has been reduced about M 000 through the failure of the St Joseph Grand Island railroad company and Oregon Railway A Navigation and the Central branch to earn fixed charges money to meet which the Union Pacific advanced It was unanimously voted that under existing ex-isting circumstances of the railroad situation situa-tion it was inexpedient to resume the pay inent of dividends The draft of the report was then referred back to the executive committee to be perfected and submitted to stockholders While there is nothing in the above that would lead one to infer that any action in reference to this city was taken nevertheless never-theless private advices were to the effect that everything was serene that the action had at the recent meeting of the Utah Central Cen-tral people was entirely satisfactory and that the plans heretofore detailed in these columns would be carried out Trouble In the Camp The Union Pacific appeals to be playing in hard luck in the selection of emploj in their various departments around Denver Not a month ago a deep conspiracy among laborers switchmen and brakemen was unearthed un-earthed in this city says the Denver jeir Freight to the value of several thousand dollars had been stolen and it was boldly alleged by the officers of the company that operations were conducted with the connivance con-nivance men in power who were enabled to better conceal the loss or destroy traces of the active principals Detectives were employed and while they were working up the case the game was flushed by the city police and before action could be taken the principal suspects hurriedly left town The premature arrests probably defeated the aims of justice as there is scarcely sufficient evidence obtained to secure a conviction ANOTHER S EU CONFESSED Following these disclosures another sensation sen-sation will be produced in railway circles when it is known that another conspiracy has been run to ground One of the men implicated has confessed his share in the plot I and as soon as his accomplices can be located thej will be apprised of the fact and requested to accompany an officer to quartei where the can be held for legal examination examina-tion For some time past the general auditor of the Union Pacific at Omaha has been receiving receiv-ing from conductors genuine tickets of the company issued to cover long distance trips between points on the line lying between Denver Cheyenne and Ogden There was nothing irregular about the appearance of the pasteboards and they would probably have passed unnoticed had a discrepancy not been discovered in the reported sales of tickets bj agents and the number actually turned into headquarters The reports showed a material difference Investiga t oil followed as a matter of course and traveling auditors were sent out to sift the secret to its base in order to reach the source of the Clocked transaction TICKETS OUT OF Tilt KICK A close examination resulted in connecting connect-ing a young man employed as ticket clerk in one of the chief western offices with the fraudulent issue When taxed with the crime he made a confession relating how he managed the deal His method was to select tickets from the case stamp them with the regular office stamp and forward them to confederates who had no trouble in disposing of them to l ticket brokers In the hands of third parties there was no means of telling whether the ticket came through legitimate channels or was a back number surreptitiously circulated by dishonest employes The scheme could only be detected at the auditors office and the accomplices expected before that time to divert suspicion from themselves by a bogus burglar or the story of a sneak thief entering the office and removing the tickets while the clerks attention was engaged en-gaged elsewhere How this pretty part of the combination worked is not exactly clear Rumor has it that the burglary story was told in accordance with previous arrangement ar-rangement and in pushing the inquiry the actual facts were disclosed No information could be obtained as those who are acquainted with the details have received pretty straight hint that their situations depend upon preserving silence The amount stolon is variously estimated at from fifty to seventy tickets valued at from 20 to A0 each representing a loss to the company of from 1000 to JOOO Full developments are expected at an early day as the railway managers arc ready to pounce upon all the men implicate impli-cate in the steal A circular has been issued to all western conductors to take up all tickets of a certain cer-tain issue collect fare and report a dcscnp tion of passenger where from and destination destina-tion to Omaha The frauds are also supposed sup-posed to effect the Kansas Pacific Personal and General A second overland train will be put on the Union Pacific between Cheyenne and Og den April 15 The Chicago A Northwestern railway companys dividend of Ij y per cent was payable on Monday last The Chicago Milwaukee St Paul railway rail-way company has declared a dividend of 2 per cent which was payable April 20 President Hughitt of the Chicago Northwestern says that the consolidation probable that fifty miles of this route will be constructed this year A Salt Lake special to a Denver exchange says The Denver Rio Grande Western will not sell out With profits both in passengers pas-sengers and freights steadily on the increase in-crease General Palmer and Colonel Dodge are too shrewd to part with their property Tho Western will effect traffic arrangements arrange-ments with any other line coming into Grand Junction broad or narrow gauge and will have a third rail laid by August next Tho chances are good for an extension exten-sion from the state line to Grand Junction of its own road whereby its entire trade of Grand Junction and neighborhood will come to Salt Lake instead of Denver That the Midland will send a spur down to the Junction on turning next at Rifle Creek it is believed which will throw all the Grand valley traffic directly into Salt Lake The Western is also straightening its track so that twelve or fifteen miles will be saved between Salt Lake and
